L'obiettivo della scuola è quello di dare il background e lo stato dell'arte
sulla caratterizzazione dei materiali organici nelle ceramiche.Tali indagini
sono alla base dello studio dell'alimentazione nel passato e dello
funzionale della ceramica.

Residues in Archaeological Materials a. Focus on ceramics" will be held
in Grosseto (Tuscany, Italy), June 24-29, 2007.
The school is aimed at giving the background and the state-of-the-art on
the characterization of organic residues in archaeological materials by
using mainly gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and spot tests.Teachers
are qualified scientists worldwide.
These analyses are important for the functional analysis of ceramics and for
the investigations on the past diet.

Identification and characterization of organic residues in archaeological materials, such as ceramics, is a fascinating field of modern archaeology and archaeometry. These residues allow to obtain information on the original content of the materials, on their function and use. They can also give information on dietary and customs of people who used them. Actually several chemical methodologies can be used for the characterization of organic materials.
The 1st-ISCORAM school is aimed at giving the background and the state-of-the-art on the characterization of organic residues in archaeological materials, and in particular in ceramic vessels. Different approaches, such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry and spot tests will be presented together with a lot of examples of their applications in archaeology. Laboratory practice will have an important role in the school. Teachers are qualified scientists worldwide.
