La arqueóloga municipal, Rosa Ruiz Entrecanales, se ha felicitado de que "por fin" existan vestigios que demuestren la existencia de "la muralla de la repoblación", lo que en su opinión ayuda a datar con mayor exactitud las diferentes épocas del recinto amurallado abulense.

"Cambiar del siglo XI al XII -como origen de la muralla actual- puede parecer una tontería, pero no lo es, porque de lo que hablamos es del cambio histórico que supone la conquista de Toledo", ha explicado la arqueóloga municipal, quien ha añadido que se trata de "los primeros restos claros del siglo XI".

La parte descubierta ahora correspondería a la época de Alfonso VI durante la conquista de Toledo, momento en el que "se da la orden de repoblar Ávila y Salamanca como la frontera que era necesario fortificar", según ha relatado Rosa Ruiz Entrecanales.

En este contexto y ante "los muchos ataques islámicos" de aquella época, les parecía "raro" que no existiera la parte de la muralla que hoy ha aparecido gracias a estas obras cuyo presupuesto asciende a un millón de euros.

Lo descubierto hasta el momento incluye un muro con una profundidad de tres metros y un foso, objetos entre los que figuran monedas de la época de Alfonso X, materiales mudéjares, morteros, los cubos y los lienzos, niveles arqueológicos y "la contracerca que puede estar acompañada por la barbacana".

Desde el punto de vista arqueológico se trata de un hallazgo "importantísimo", ya que a juicio de Entrecanales, con este descubrimiento "se puede empezar a datar muchísimo mejor la muralla con cercas, contracercas y muchos sistemas defensivos asociados".

La arqueóloga se ha referido a las distintas etapas de la muralla de más de 2,5 kilómetros de perímetro, como los elementos del siglo V en el Arco de San Vicente, así como la que ha denonimado "muralla del siglo XII", correspondiente a la época de Alfonso VIII y que es la que en la actualidad "la que se ve".

Asimismo, ha recordado cómo siempre se ha hablado de la existencia de la puerta más importante de la ciudad que, tras este hallazgo,swiss-made-cartier.org "podría ser esta", ya que era donde se encontraba el Alcázar Real.
